HI, I’M SHARLENE

I am a passionate artist and connector. You could say I’ve really learned to embody the spirit of fungi. I live my life with a curiosity for the unknown. As an artist and connector my work is about more than what you see—it’s about how it makes you feel. I believe a single encounter can shift worlds. I’m here to create art, spaces, experiences and moments — whether physical, emotional or energetic— moments that are raw, electric, and give goosebumps… where authenticity thrives.

I often introduce myself as a mushroom artist just to see the confused reaction. However, I come with over 30 years of experience working as an image maker through photography and graphic design. I worked with creatives in fashion, music and performance arts. I discovered a love for print and pattern design along the way and in a past life, I was a fashion designer and even created my own brand, twice. However, after moving to Berlin and living through a global pandemic, I learned to let go of the hustle culture of Los Angeles. I realized how important it is to connect with nature and to one another on a deeper level.

What began as a mushroom walk during the COVID pandemic has given life to what I have named Shhhroooms. I was flooded with a whole new world of inspiration. It’s no surprise to me that fungi are part of the zeitgeist of our time. I have always been a multi-disciplinary creative who loves to tackle many projects at a time. So why not explore one of the most significant queendoms on the planet?

My obsession with discovering mushrooms on the forest floor and learning all the ways in which fungi help the planet and humans, is one of the reasons I joined a team to create an immersive, interactive, traveling Museum of Mushrooms. Plus, the connective spirit of fungi reflects my personal purpose in life, which is to connect people and to connect them with nature. So a perfect opportunity has found me. Without fungi, the world as we know it would literally cease to exist. In an era of major environmental concern, we need to protect the Funga. I like to help people see them in a different way. Inspiring reverence for our fungi world. We have so much to learn from them.
