Sharlene Durfey, a Mushroom Artist

I introduce myself as a mushroom artist these days. However, I come with over 20 years experience working with graphics and textile print and pattern design. I broadened my career early on, with fashion design and photography, which became my main passion. However, over the past couple years, I found a calling to explore nature and work more with my hands. Once I discovered the World Wood Web (mycelium) and it’s fruiting bodies, fungi, I was flooded with a whole new world of inspiration. The recent increased fascination of fungi across the planet is no surprise to me. Mushrooms have the potential to save the world. They are medicinal, sustainable, nutritious, beautiful and everywhere. In an era of major environmental concern, we will be thinking about the word fungi in a much different light. I share my creations under the moniker, “shhhroooms” on instagram. I’m thrilled to expand my mushroom art into the fashion industry by launching an original collection of mushroom inspired textiles for fashion and interiors.

happy to hear from you…
