Exploring new mediums.
When I was given the opportunity to show my artwork at Mahalla again, for Artwork, I wanted to create something new. I had always wanted to make bigger sculptures similar to my masks, but with something more resilient.
In 2023, at Primordia I, I showed a selection of my collages and my collection of masks.
In 2024, I created the Mycelium Cave in the darkest area of the basement of Mahalla, next to the Mushroom Lab. Together with my partner, Philip we were able to transport people into a state of calm and tranquility. A welcomed retreat from the intensity of the rest of the exhibitions.
Process
Check out this process video I put together. Thanks to Eric at Glastrix for printing my puzzle pieces! I am getting better at remembering to make these types of things. I love watching them myself, but I am usually forgetful when it comes to making them myself. This piece was pretty satisfying to make though. I am excited to make more!
A video from the event. The room was always full. Underneath the installation were pillows of plenty and beautiful rugs provided by Mahalla. Look out for other events at Mahalla where we might have an opportunity to activate the Mycelium Cave! Sanctum of Sound Festival in July will be the next event.
